Brunelleschi's Rotonda shines again: in recent days Angeli del Bello e Custodi del Bello They completed a cleaning project on the exterior walls, severely defaced with graffiti. The operation, carried out with tools, brushes, specialized products, and great care, restored its dignity to one of the symbols of the Renaissance. After nearly twenty years, the ANMIG of Florence reopened the building to the public to house the collections of the Medici Museum.

The project Custodi del Bello, born in Florence in 2010 with the Foundation Angeli del Bellois a civic and social initiative that focuses on vulnerable people—those lacking professional skills—such as migrants, the homeless, the unemployed, and those over 50 who are excluded from the labor market. These individuals, supported by tutors and third-sector workers, are trained on the job and coordinated into teams to maintain urban decor: they remove graffiti, perform micro-cleaning of green spaces, parks, schools, and monuments. The project has now expanded throughout Italy in partnership with Caritas, Extrapulita, and Consorzio Communitas.

Over 50 participants have already joined the project in Florence, finding a concrete opportunity to rebuild a social network, gain confidence and learn useful skills, even if they are not specialized operators.

«The graffiti is done in a flash, but removing it takes hours of dedication – underlines Giorgio Moretti, president of the Foundation Angeli del Bello —With this type of intervention, we demonstrate that Florence will not surrender to degradation, investing in vulnerable people with a path of inclusion, education, and hope."

The operation at the Rotonda was carried out thanks to the Protocol in place for more than 10 years with the Superintendency and is part of a broader framework of enhancement of the monumental complex of Santa Maria degli Angeli, carried out thanks to the synergy between ANMIG of Florence and the Medici history museum of the city.

«What is happening in the Santa Maria degli Angeli complex is an extraordinary example of active citizenship which sees our museum involved with the ANMIG of Florence and the Angeli del Bello in a process of recovery, museumization and restitution to the city of a historical and artistic heritage of inestimable value" says Samuele Lastrucci, director of the Museo de' Medici.

The fruits of this synergic work of recovery and enhancement will be presented on Thursday 11 September on the occasion of the opening of the new museum itinerary, when an extraordinary guided tour of the entire monumental complex will also be announced. The press and institutions are invited to attend.
